Brahmos Accidentally Fired

The Delhi High Court on Tuesday sought the Centre's stand on a petition by a former Air Force officer against his dismissal over the accidental firing of Brahmos missile into Pakistan during a simulation exercise last year.

The missile was fired accidentally from the Indian side into an area in Pakistan earlier in March, in an incident the Defence Ministry had called "deeply regrettable" and blamed on "technical malfunction".

A day after Defence Minister Rajnath Singh explained to parliament how a missile was "inadvertently launched" on March 9 and landed in Pakistan, a Bloomberg report claims that Pakistan had prepared to launch a similar missile in a retaliatory strike.
