State prosecutors agree with defense attorneys for the teenager accused of killing eight students and two teachers at Santa Fe High School last year that he is not mentally competent to stand trial at this time.

"It looks like she's crying," said Hilda Darkins, 71, as the very long day began. Around her, a group of retirees were sitting around circular tables at the Mid-County Senior Center, watching TV. Several retirees were dabbing their own eyes. "Who can blame her?"

The funeral was about to begin, the first of 10 for the victims of the Santa Fe High School mass shooting, and the body of Sabika Sheikh was waiting at the mosque.

A 17-year-old student armed with a shotgun and a pistol went on a rampage Friday morning at his school here outside Houston, killing 10 people - mostly students - before surrendering to the officers who confronted him, officials said. Ten others were wounded, including a school resource officer who was left in critical condition.
