The Assam police on Friday recovered a massive cache of arms, ammunition and explosives at Udalguri of Bodoland Territorial Area Districts (BTAD).

Assam Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday clarified that the Centre would not upgrade the state's "Bodoland Territorial Area Districts" (BTAD) to a Union Territory, as part of a new peace accord likely to be inked between various stakeholders and the Centre.

Charging the Congress-led government of "destroying" Assam, BJP president Amit Shah, today accused Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi of doing nothing else but indulging in family promotion for years.

Parts of Assam, which had been hit by ethnic violence that began on December 23, may be limping back to normalcy. Despite more relief camps being set up and the army taking part in security operations, there seems to be little to assure the victims who are uncertain of their future in the Bodoland Territorial Area Districts (BTAD) region.

Just when it seems that the troubled parts of lower Assam would finally get back it's normal routine, hopes are belied. Last evening, when a group of people were returning to their village, they were waylaid and 5 people lost their lives. The local administration went by the easiest option in a bureaucrat's rulebook and imposed "indefinite curfew."...

Peace remained the central focus of Eid in Assam on Monday with thousands of people offering Namaz-e-Eid at mosques across the state, including in the troubled Kokrajhar, Chirang and Dhubri districts where 77 people have been killed in ethnic clashes and more than four lakh displaced.
