Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra today criticised the remarks made by a member of the National Commission for Women (NCW) who had said the gangrape and murder of a 50-year-old woman in Uttar Pradesh's Budaun could have been avoided if the woman had not gone out in the evening.

The prime accused in the gang-rape and murder case of a 50-year-old woman has been arrested in western Uttar Pradesh's Budaun, the district magistrate said on Thursday.

Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra hit out at the Adityanath government on Wednesday over the gang rape and murder in Budaun district, alleging that there was something wrong in the intentions of the Uttar Pradesh administration on the issue of women's security.

A 14-year-old girl was found hanging at her house in western Uttar Pradesh's Budaun this morning, two days after she alleged that three men, one of whom was known to her, kidnapped her at gunpoint and gang-raped her. The girl said she was kidnapped on Monday night when she stepped out of the house to go to the toilet.
