Calamity Assistance To States

A high-level committee of the Union Home Ministry on Friday approved Rs 4,381.88 crores for relief and assistance under the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) to six states after recent natural calamities caused widespread devastation.

A high-level committee, headed by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, has approved the release of nearly Rs 4,382 crore to six states as central assistance for the natural calamities they faced this year.

The Centre today approved the release of Rs 5,908.56 crore to seven states, including Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka and Assam, as assistance for the damage caused due to various calamities last year.

The Jammu and Kashmir government on Friday declared the heavy snowfall earlier this week as state-specific "special natural calamity" to streamline providing relief and assistance to farmers affected by the unexpected event, an official spokesperson said.
