Chidambaram sets stage for launch of Direct Cash Transfer scheme on January 1

A day after Prime Minister Manmohan Singh formally announced direct cash transfers (DCT) to beneficiaries of subsidies, Finance Minister P Chidambaram said that 42 schemes have been identified for the same, which include food, fertilisers and NREGA. Of these, he said, 29 schemes are all ready to be rolled out via direct transfer from January 1.
