Cbi Raids Coal Scam Bengal

The CBI on Thursday conducted searches at multiple locations across West Bengal, including at properties linked to a retired CISF constable, in connection with its investigation into the multi-crore coal pilferage case, an official said.

The agency, aided by a huge contingent of central paramilitary personnel, conducted searches in these properties in connection with the scam. Women officers were also part of the team.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today said that if her family members get a notice from any of the central government probe agencies, she would fight them legally though it has become a tough affair these days.

Officials of the CBI's anti-corruption branch on Wednesday raided the premises of several businessmen believed to be close associates of Anup Majhi alias Lala, the alleged kingpin of the illegal coal trading racket in the Asansol-Ranigunj belt of West Bengal, sources in the agency said.

The Enforcement Directorate is conducting searches at least a dozen locations in Kolkata and other parts of Bengal in connection with the CBI probe into coal theft and cattle smuggling in the state

A security official of Eastern Coalfield Ltd in West Bengal's Asansol suffered a heart attack during a search by the CBI in a case of illegal mining and theft. The official, Dhananjay Roy, was rushed to hospital, where he died. He was one of several people whose properties were raided by the CBI today in connection with the case.
