Central Africa Vote

Election officials began counting ballots Sunday after the Central African Republic voted in delayed legislative elections and a presidential run-off it hopes will bring peace after the worst sectarian violence since independence in 1960.

Two people were killed Sunday as heavy weapons fire and clashes in the Muslim district of Bangui, the Central African Republic capital, marred a referendum on a new constitution aimed at ending years of sectarian strife.

The vote took place at the congress of the North and Central American and Caribbean Football (CONCACAF) in Panama City on Friday. Gulati has been president of US soccer since 2006.
