Left Withdraws Candidate In Tripura's Charilam, Alleges Violence By BJP Workers

On the last day of campaigning, the CPI-M-led Left Front on Saturday withdrew its candidate from the Charilam assembly constituency claiming "extremely terrible situation" in the tribal dominated areas of Tripura "due to massive reign of terror" by the BJP.

Voting in 59 seats of Tripura's 60-seat assembly began at 7 am on Sunday. Polling in Charilam constituency was postponed to March 12 after the death of Communist Party of India (Marxist) or CPI(M) candidate Ramendra Narayan Debbarma. The Election Commission had set up 3,174 polling stations in Tripura; 47 of them were managed by women.
