A 23-year-old employee of the Income Tax department was injured in an acid attack by an unidentified person at his residence in Chennai, police said on Wednesday.

Tamil Nadu would soon be the first state to regulate sale of acid across the counter in an effort to stop acid attacks against women. Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa has announced that the state would pass an ordinance to regulate sale of acid.

Against the backdrop of acid attacks that claimed the lives of two young women, Tamil Nadu Government on Tuesday said it will take steps to control and regulate sale of the chemical.

A young woman, who was battling injuries sustained in an acid attack, died at a Chennai hospital early this morning. Last month, a man had thrown acid on the 20-year- old victim while she was alone at an Internet browsing centre where she worked.
