Around 35 students of a private school were rushed to hospital after they complained of giddiness, irritation in their throat and eyes in Chennai. At least three of them have been shifted to a private hospital.

The leak of ammonia gas from a subsea pipeline linked to a fertiliser manufacturing unit in north Chennai led to local residents suffering shortness of breath and nausea, authorities said on Wednesday, adding that 52 persons are under observation.

Tamil Nadu government has shut a fertiliser manufacturing facility in Ennore near Chennai after ammonia gas leaked from its sub-sea pipeline leading to six people being hospitalised on Tuesday night. They were discharged from the hospital.
