A federation of sabhas or the groups that organise Carnatic music concerts in Chennai have instituted anti-sexual harassment committees after some musicians from the city were called out in the MeToo movement that has swept the country.

In an effort to promote classical music beyond the boundaries of elite gatherings, a musical concert was organised on the sea shore near a fishing colony adjoining Elliot's Beach in Chennai.

Ghulam Ali, whose concerts in Maharashtra and Delhi were cancelled recently, will reportedly perform in Kerala twice in January, at the invitation of social organisation Swaralaya. The organisation would also honour the legendary musician during the function. However, the singer could not be reached for comments

It is the venue of the biggest music and dance concerts in Chennai. The Music Academy, one of the city's oldest landmarks, now boasts of a new distinction. Tumkur University has granted the 84 year old institution the status of a research centre.
