BJP MLA from Kaladhungi, Banshidhar Bhagat triggered a controversy by his remarks at an event in Haldwani on the occasion of International Girl Child Day.

The film was 1971's Tamil devotional Aathi Parashakti, in which Jayalalithaa played the lead role of Goddess Sakthi, opposite Gemini Ganesan as Lord Shiva. Sridevi, then a child artiste, appeared as Lord Murugan. Now 53, Sridevi recalled Jayalalithaa as "articulate, dignified, cultured and caring."

The existing paradox of Goddesses being worshiped and women being discriminated against in the same land will come alive this year in Durga Pujas across the national capital region with pandals sporting themes, which endorse women empowerment.

A so-called popular child goddess in Andhra Pradesh has been ordered to be sent to school by the State Human Rights Commission which believes the child's Right to Education is being violated.
