India will be able to ratify two International Labour Organization (ILO) conventions, 182 and 138, related to maternity benefits and abolition of child labour, as the country has completely banned it up to the age of 14 years, Labour Minister Bandaru Dattatreya said today.

Intensifying the battle to fight rights of children, both in India and the world, and ending child slavery in his lifetime is now the mission of Nobel Peace Laureate Kailash Satyarthi.

Nobel laureate Kailash Satyarthi today demanded a complete ban on all forms of labour involving children below 14 years, against the backdrop of Union Cabinet's nod to amend Child Labour Law to allow them to work in family enterprise.

The government has given its nod to a proposal allowing children below the age of 14 years to work only in family enterprises or the entertainment industry with certain conditions while completely banning their employment elsewhere.

Its main protagonist, a teacher called Jiya - who tackles everything from the ban on girls going to school, to child labour to environmental degradation - was named as one of the most influential fictional characters of 2013 by Time magazine

Child rights activist and Nobel laureate Kailash Satyarthi has, on Friday, demanded the government to ensure a complete ban on child labour up to the age of 14, saying that the Child Labour Bill should be tabled and passed during the second half of the Budget session in Parliament.
