Extreme weather, including hailstorms, heavy rain and a tornado, killed 51 and injured dozens in China's eastern Jiangsu province, the official Xinhua news agency reported today.

Hailstorms that hit southern China this week have killed 12 people, injured hundreds more and caused tens of millions of dollars in damage.

At least 24 people died and scores were injured after a tornado carrying huge hailstones lashed southern China, causing widespread devastation and a ferry to capsize, domestic media reported on Thursday.
