China Stand On Kashmir Issue

China today sought to defend the proposed bus service with Pakistan through Pakistan-occupied Kashmir or PoK, saying its cooperation with Islamabad has nothing to do with the territorial dispute and will not change its principled stance on the Kashmir issue.

China said today that the Kashmir issue should be resolved bilaterally by India and Pakistan, while dismissing calls by the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation or OIC for the implementation of the UN resolution on the dispute.

The Congress party today said differences with China over Kashmir were a new focal point, and the party will seek a debate in parliament on the issue. The Congress said it stands with the government on matters of territorial integrity and national security

China today denied reports of its official media that said it has plans of mediating between India and Pakistan to resolve the Kashmir issue. China said its position that Kashmir is a bilateral matter stands and the $50 billion China-Pakistan Economic Corridor has not affected it.

China on Wednesday said it "attaches importance" to Pakistan's stand on Kashmir but hoped that New Delhi and Islamabad resolve the issue through dialogue and consultation to "safeguard" peace and stability in the region.
