China To Downsize Army

China on Monday said it has slashed three lakh troops, reducing the size of its 2.3-million People's Liberation Army to just two-million-strong force, a move aimed at making the world's largest army a mightier force capable of winning modern wars.

China will downsize its 2.3 million-strong army, the world's largest, to under one million in the biggest troop reduction in its history as part of a restructuring process, an official Chinese daily said.

China's new move to downsize its 2.3-million strong military will result in laying off of about 1.70 lakh officers as the world's largest army plans to scrap two of its existing seven commands and three corps to streamline forces.
