Hailing India for keeping a "neutral stand" over the South China Sea despite pressure from the US and Japan, state-run Chinese media today said there are some contradictions and frictions between the two nations, but the overall bilateral relations have been developing smoothly.

Describing China as an "important player" in the nuclear sector, a senior Chinese state policy researcher has said it is one of the areas where it can cooperate with India, a remark which comes amidst growing strain between the two countries over the NSG issue.
