Just a day after going to the Supreme Court, the Congress abruptly withdrew its petition today on the impeachment move against Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra, which was rejected recently by Vice President Venkaiah Naidu.

Congress has withdrawn its petition challenging Rajya Sabha chairman Venkaiah Naidu's decision to reject the impeachment move against Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra from the Supreme Court. 

A petition on the impeachment move against Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra, rejected recently by Vice President Venkaiah Naidu, will be heard by a five-judge constitution bench of the Supreme Court on Tuesday.

Two senior Supreme Court judges have asked the Chief Justice of India, Dipak Misra, to call a "full court" of all judges to discuss "institutional issues and the future of the court", in a brief and terse letter that was sent on Sunday, two days after opposition parties submitted notice to impeach the top judge.

The Congress's plan to approach the Supreme Court after its impeachment motion against the Chief Justice of India was rejected by the Rajya Sabha Chairman, is a "suicidal future move", Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said in a Facebook post on Tuesday.

Questioned by the opposition over the speed at which he dismissed a notice for the impeachment of Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra, Vice President Venkaiah Naidu today told a group of lawyers his decision was "not hasty" and came after "over a month of due diligence".
