Classes For Slum Children

Indian Forest Service officer Susanta Nanda borrowed the words of renowned Hindi poet Dushyant Kumar to praise a teacher who has been taking classes for children in a Delhi slum.

A police station in Maharashtra's Aurangabad has been holding tutorialsforchildren from the slum areas on its premises. As part of a community policing programme, Pundalik Nagar police station has started English classes for children from nearby slums, for a period of 15 days, with the help of a teacher.

Sixteen-year-old Jomsher Ali comes back to his home in Guwahati's Hafiznagar Bustee tired after a long day not from school but work. With school closed because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Class 7 student has become a daily wager to earn a living for himself and his ailing mother who used to work as a domestic help but has since lost the job.

Sarvahitey is an NGO based in Noida, Uttar Pradesh which has been teaching children living in slums for the last 18 months at several locations in Delhi NCR. Recently, Sarvahitey conducted its monthly volunteers meeting where it was decided that Yoga classes should be included in the curriculum for the children.
