The Supreme Court on Tuesday issued notice to Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam on a petition seeking de-allocation of its coal block in Chhattisgarh and cancellation of the joint venture and coal delivery agreement with Adani Enterprises Limited (AEL).

The Enforcement Directorate has attached assets worth Rs 603 crore of a Chhattisgarh-based company in connection with the money laundering probe in the coal blocks allocation scam.

Coal Minister Piyush Goyal on Thursday told the Lok Sabha that state-owned Coal India Limited (CIL), the designated custodian for Gare Palma IV/1 coal mine in Chhattisgarh, has taken steps to restart mining work of the block.

On the first day of the current round on Tuesday, the government auctioned two blocks in Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra, which fetched Rs 2,529 crore.

On Saturday Hindalco bagged the Gare Palma IV/4 coal block by bidding Rs 3,001 per tonne. On February 19, it had bagged the Gare IV/5 mine in Chhattisgarh and on February 15 it won the Kathautia mine in Jharkhand.

Bharat Aluminium Company (Balco) bagged one more coal block on the eighth day of the auction, taking the total number of mines sold so far through the ongoing auction to 18 that will generate an estimated over Rs 1 lakh crore for the respective states.

High bidding interest in coal block auction could make states including Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh and West Bengal richer by over Rs 15 lakh crore over 30 years.
