Coast Guard Plane Missing

One person was killed and rescue crews were searching for nine others after a small plane crashed along the coast of the US state of Washington on Sunday, the coast guard said.

A remotely operated vehicle of the National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT) that can scan sea at a depth of 3500 metres, will join the search for IAF's AN-32 aircraft which went missing with 29 crew members on July 22, a Coast Guard official said today.

There is no stepping down of search operations for the missing AN-32 plane belonging to Indian Air Force with 29 people on board on July 22 despite no signs of debris or oil slick on the sea surface, said a senior Indian Coast Guard official on Sunday.

After 48 hours of frantic search involving assets drawn from Air Force, Navy and Coast Guard, Indian Air Force authorities have lodged a formal complaint with Tamil Nadu police over the missing AN-32 aircraft.

Coast Guard authorities are in touch with Sri Lanka as part of their search efforts to locate the Dornier plane which went missing nearly a month ago, the mother of a missing crew member said in Chennai today.

A submarine has picked up feeble intermittent signals from what is likely to be from the missing Dornier aircraft off the Chidambaram coast in Tamil Nadu, where the plane is believed to have crashed. The location of the aircraft, however, has not been identified yet.

Two more naval ships and a National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT) vessel are set to join the massive operation to locate the missing Coast Guard Dornier aircraft which continued without any headway for the third day on thursday.
