Eighty undertrials and prisoners at Central Jail in Coimbatore resorted to a one day fast on Monday protesting the delay in taking up their pleas on detaining them under the Goondas Act. Police said these prisoners, including those involved in robberies and house breaking, wanted the Advisory Committee to hear their petitions at the earliest.

A 52-year-old man was jailed for the 74th time at the central prison in Coimbatore. Kumar, native of Kothagiri in Nilgiris district was lodged in the prison for the 74th time on Saturday after he was arrested for stealing from an offering box at a temple in his village.
