  Anxious moments prevailed at the central jail near Salem in Coimbatore on Thursday when a helicam was found flying over the prison, police said.

• 80 prisoners on 1 day fast over delay in taking up their pleas

  Eighty undertrials and prisoners at Central Jail in Coimbatore resorted to a one day fast on Monday protesting the delay in taking up their pleas on detaining them under the Goondas Act. Police said these prisoners, including those involved in robberies and house breaking, wanted the Advisory Committee to hear their petitions at the earliest.

• Five cellphones seized from prisoners in Coimbatore jail

  Five cellphones have been recovered from some prisoners in Central Jail in Coimbatore during intensive searches for the last couple of days, prison officials said.

• Head constable attacked

  A Head Constable was injured after three persons attacked him and decamped with his two-wheeler and suitcase, police said.

  Ravanan, an arrested relative of Sasikala, estranged aide of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, was today taken to Chennai for interrogation in connection a cheating case, police said.

  About 40 prisoners in the Central Jail here observed a one-day fast to protest against frequent searches in the cells.

• Man jailed for 74th time in Coimbatore

  A 52-year-old man was jailed for the 74th time at the central prison in Coimbatore. Kumar, native of Kothagiri in Nilgiris district was lodged in the prison for the 74th time on Saturday after he was arrested for stealing from an offering box at a temple in his village.
