DMK chief MK Stalin turned peacemaker today, urging his party and the Congress to avoid airing differences in public forums and cautioning his ally against offering common enemies the opportunity to "see cracks in the DMK-Congress alliance"

A day after it said only time will tell whether ties with the Congress would go back to normalcy, the DMK on Wednesday upped the ante, saying if the national party wants to quit the alliance, it can do so.

Countering arch rival DMK for taking potshots at Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) for joining hands with it, the ruling AIADMK on Thursday said its opponent's tie up with Congress was against the stand of late Dravidian patriarch M Karunanidhi.

The BJP's alliance with Tamil Nadu's ruling AIADMK done and dusted, the Congress put the alliance with DMK on fast track and announced the seat sharing deal this evening.

Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi hit out at the BJP for destroying the country's constitutional values, and sought "steadfast and strong ties" between her party and the DMK to trounce BJP in 2019.

Congress leader and Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad met DMK chief M Karunanidhi in Chennai on Thursday, triggering speculation of a possible revival of ties between the two parties.

DMK's Rajya Sabha candidate and party chief M Karunanidhi's daughter Kanimozhi visited the state Congress' office in Chennai today to thank the former ally for supporting her candidature for a second term in the Rajya Sabha. She also presented shawls to some leaders as a token of gratitude.

Kanimozhi, the Rajya Sabha MP who spent six months in jail, has asked the Delhi High Court to drop the charges that led to her arrest in the telecom scam. Her lawyers say that there is no evidence that she conspired with the others being tried for the swindle, including her party's A Raja, the former telecom minister who is still in jail.

Keeping its allies happy is turning into Mission Impossible for the Congress. After pacifying the DMK and Mamata Banerjee, a third crucial partner in the ruling coalition is now sulking. Sharad Pawar, head of the Nationalist Congress Party or NCP, said today that he is pained by the Prime Minister's comments on his allies.
