Congress Garibi Hatao Slogan

Taking a dig at the Congress and Gandhi family, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday said former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi gave slogans such as 'Garibi Hatao' but, in reality, the party never did anything for the poor.

Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar hit out at the Congress government for their empty slogans on 'Garibi Hatao' saying that it has taken the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to lift 25 crore Indians out of poverty.

Union minister Nitin Gadkari on Friday alleged Congress's slogan "garibi hatao" only removed the poverty of the party's leaders and their acolytes, but the BJP introduced developmental schemes and opened employment opportunities for all.

The Congress has used "garibi hatao (eradicate poverty)" slogan as a "ploy" to stay in power for many years, said Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Dinesh Sharma.

The Congress is still relying on the ''Garibi Hatao'' slogan coined by former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in 1971 as they could not drive away poverty during their rule, Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said Tuesday.
