Sri Lanka's central bank has secured foreign exchange to pay for fuel and cooking gas shipments that will ease crippling shortages, its governor said on Thursday, as the prime minister said supplies had been locked in for at least a month.

Sri Lanka has started a process to import cooking gas through a credit line arrangement with India, the chair of the country's state-run gas company Litro Gas said on Friday.

CNG price in the national capital on Friday was increased by Rs 2.28 per kg and piped cooking gas supplied to households by Rs 2.10 following a 62 percent hike in natural gas prices.

The initiative has been taken to create an eco-system for collection and conversion of UCO into Biodiesel and developing entrepreneurship opportunities.

LPG price today: With effect from May 1, non-subsidised LPG prices stood at Rs712.5 per cylinder in Delhi, Rs 738.5 per cylinder in Kolkata, Rs 684.5 per cylinder in Mumbai and Rs728 per cylinder in Chennai, according to Indian Oil Corporation, which supplies the cooking gas under brand Indane.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday laid the foundation stone to mark the beginning of work for CNG supply to automobiles and piped cooking gas to kitchens, in 129 districts of 18 states, covering over a quarter of India's population.

Prices of non-subsidised LPG, or cooking gas, have been reduced by Rs 35.50 per cylinder, and that of the subsidised one by a marginal Rs 1.74, according to state-run oil marketing companies, even as public sector Indraprastha Gas Ltd hiked the rates for piped and compressed natural gas (CNG) supply to cities in the national capital region.

The price of piped natural gas (PNG) supplied to kitchens was also raised by 80 paise per standard cubic meter in Delhi and 91 paise per scm in adjoining cities.

In a majority of supplies of goods, the tax incidence approved by the GST Council is much lower than the present combined indirect tax rates levied by the Centre and states, the finance ministry said in a statement.

Advocating rationalising LPG subsidy, the pre-Budget Economic Survey has called for cutting supply of below-market priced cooking gas to 10 cylinders per household in a year from 12 cylinders, at present.
