The much delayed Copyright Bill, providing for certain important amendments to the Copyright Act, was today approved by the Rajya Sabha. The bill will remove operational difficulties and address newer issues related to the digital world and Internet.

After being disallowed by the Opposition last week, Human Resource Development Minister Kapil Sibal today moved a bill in the Rajya Sabha to amend the Copyright Act. Last week, the Opposition parties including the BJP, AIADMK and TDP had prevented him from moving the bill alleging that there was a "conflict of interest".
