Court Ordered Judicial Remand

The Bombay High Court on Sunday set aside a special court's order remanding former Maharashtra home minister Anil Deshmukh to judicial custody, and sent him in the Enforcement Directorate's (ED) custody till November 12 in a money laundering case.

Former Union Minister P Chidambaram, arrested in the INX Media corruption case, today approached the Delhi High Court seeking bail. Mr Chidambaram also challenged a trial court's September 5 order remanding him to 14 days judicial custody in the case till September 19.

Tarun Tejpal, the founder of Tehelka, has been sent to police custody for six days by a Goa Sessions court. Judicial Magistrate (First Class) Shama Joshi passed the order for Mr Tejpal's remand on a plea by the police, which had brought the Tehelka founder to court before noon today.

A Sri Lankan court today ordered the release of 29 fishermen from Nagapattinam and Karaikal but extended the judicial remand of five others, officials said.
