Assam, which has seen a rise in Covid cases, will not impose stricter curbs, said Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, adding the authorities are monitoring the rate of hospitalisation.

Registering its highest single-day spike since the onset of the pandemic, Assam logged 8,072 Covid cases yesterday which pushed the state's tally to 6,61,789. The previous highest number of new cases on a single day were reported on Monday.

The Assam government has decided to exclude all unvaccinated people from public places amid record numbers of COVID-19 infections driven by the highly contagious Omicron variant in the state.
