The Maharashtra government will buy two lakh vials of COVID-19 vaccines from Bharart Biotech amid a rise in cases, an official said on Monday.

The Mumbai civic body on Friday said it would focus on rigorously implementing the vaccination drive amid a surge in COVID-19 cases in some countries, believed to be fuelled by the BF.7 sub-variant of Omicron.

Even as the COVID-19 cases are going down steadily in Mumbai, it is struggling to control the outbreak of measles among children as eight deaths and 184 confirmed cases have been so far been reported in the city, as per civic officials.

India on Wednesday reported 1,086 new Covid cases, with which the country's active cases currently stand at 11,871, according to the Union Health Ministry data.

All eligible beneficiaries above the age of 18 years in Mumbai have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, the city civic body announced on Tuesday.

In view of Gudi Padwa, no COVID-19 vaccination will take place at Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and government COVID-19 vaccination Centres (CVCs) on Saturday and Sunday, informed the BMC today.
