Curfew In Old Hyderabad

Authorities eased restrictions around the historic Charminar on Wednesday, providing some relief to the people reeling under curfew-like situation in the old-city of Hyderabad, police said.

Curfew which had been imposed in the communally-sensitive areas of Madannapet and Saidabad in the Old City following incidents of communal violence, will be lifted from 6 am on Monday, police said.

Police on Friday arrested seven more persons in connection with last Sunday's communal clashes in Madannapet and Saidabad areas of the old city of Hyderabad even as authorities announced that the curfew will be relaxed for 14 hours on Saturday.

The situation remained peaceful in the riot-hit areas of old city of Hyderabad Wednesday as police relaxed curfew for the first time in four days.

Curfew in communally sensitive areas of Saidabad and Madannapet in the old city of Hyderabad continued for the third consecutive today, even as police indicated that prohibitory orders may be relaxed from tomorrow, if the situation remains peaceful.

Curfew has been relaxed in areas around the Charminar in old Hyderabad from 8 am on Thursday for two hours to allow people to buy essential commodities.

Curfew has been extended till Wednesday morning and patrolling intensified in communal violence-hit areas of the old city where clashes during the last three days left one dead and 80 injured.
