Nearly 11 years after the CBI registered an FIR in the over Rs 600-crore CWG overlays scam case, the trial against former Organising Committee members and others will begin next month, officials said on Sunday.

Shooting has been axed from the 2022 edition by Birmingham Organising Committee, citing logistical issues. The move triggered angry reactions from the IOA and the NRAI.

NRAI Secretary Rajiv Bhatia said that there is nothing that it can do now that the organising committee has taken a final call on the matter.

The Indian contingent has been insistent that there has been no wrongdoing on its part.
