Cyclone Burevi Weakens, Tamil Nadu Airports Shut As Precaution

Southern Tamil Nadu and neighbouring Kerala are on high alert as cyclone Burevi inches closer to the southern shores. The cyclone - which has weakened into a deep depression - is likely to cross Ramanathapuram and adjoining districts in six hours with windspeed of 50-60 kmph, according to the weather office.

As Kerala remains under high alert expecting heavy rains and winds as a result of cyclone Burevi, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Thursday called for a high-level meeting of the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) and other departments.

Southern Tamil Nadu and southern Kerala are on high alert as Burevi inches closer to the southern shores. The cyclonic storm is expected to make first contact with the Indian coast somewhere between Pamban and Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu, sometime between tonight and tomorrow morning.
