New York declared Wednesday "David Bowie Day" to honor the late music legend and longtime resident, as one of his final works -- a science-fiction play -- closed its run.

David Bowie was also a record producer, painter and actor. His best known screen work is in The Man Who Fell To Earth, in which he played the lead, and as the Goblin King in Labyrinth. He made cameo appearances in Zoolander and The Last Temptation Of Christ

David Bowie was known for his ability to reinvent himself. But he also helped inspire a pocket of Wall Street that tries to create money out of weird things. The so-called Bowie bonds were among the first in what would become a wave of esoteric asset-backed securities deals based on intellectual property

The sequels are part of the legacy project undertaken by the Jim Henson Company
