The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has launched an initiative to enhance passenger convenience by introducing check-in facilities for international flights at New Delhi and Shivaji Stadium metro stations on the Airport Express Line.

The Supreme Court on Wednesday set aside its own judgement and held that the PSU firm was not obliged to pay over Rs 8,000 crore to the Delhi Airport Metro Express Private Ltd, a Reliance Infrastructure firm, in pursuance of a 2017 arbitral award.

The nearly 2 km-long extension of Delhi Airport Metro Express line from Dwarka Sector 21 to YashoBhoomi Dwarka Sector 25 station, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday, will be opened to passengers later in the day.

Carrying of alcohol was banned in the Delhi Metro till recently except on the Airport Express Line.

The DMRC said with the increase in the operational speed to 110 kilometers per hour, passengers can now reach Airport (T-3) from New Delhi station in just around 16 minutes.

Delhi Metro commuters will now be able to travel on the Airport Line using a WhatsApp-based ticketing service launched on Tuesday.

Delhi Metro services will be curtailed on a section of the Airport Express Line for two hours in the morning of April 30 due to scheduled track maintenance, officials said.

The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has proposed to amend a section of the Metro Railways (Operation & Maintenance) Act 2002 to ensure that no attachment of properties or bank accounts or any assets of any metro rail can ever be carried out.
