A woman, in her early twenties, was rushed to a hospital after suffering an electric shock while trying to mark her attendance using the biometric system at her waterlogged IAS coaching centre in Delhi.

The Delhi government on Thursday asked head of departments (HoDs), autonomous bodies and municipal corporations to suspend the biometric attendance system in the wake of coronavirus outbreak, an official said.

After doing away with hand baggage tags at over a dozen airports, aviation security agencies are now planning to dump the boarding pass collection system and begin a regime of 'express check-in' aided by biometrics for smooth air travel.

Fair price shops in the capital will be linked to biometric system by early next year, work for which has begun, essentially aimed at curbing corruption and irregularities in the Public Distribution System (PDS).

The AAP government in Delhi has decided to introduce biometric attendance system in the Secretariat and all government offices in the capital to ensure "effective functioning".
