The Delhi High Court has directed the city government to pay Rs 50,000 compensation to the family of a man who had contracted coronavirus and died due to COVID-19 complications.

Delhi has so far reported 24 cases of COVID-19 sub-variant JN.1, including three patients who were from outside Delhi, with all of them recovering from the infection, officials said on Monday.

Delhi Health Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj asserted that there are no new cases of JN.1 subvariant of COVID in Delhi at present after one patient infected with the virus was discharged on Thursday.

At least 40 COVID 19-related deaths have been recorded in Delhi from April 19 to 27, with experts saying the infection is turning serious mostly in elderly patients and those with comorbidities.

At least 98 per cent of the samples collected from patients infected with COVID-19 in Delhi contain traces of XBB.1.16 variant, a senior doctor at the city's Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences (ILBS) told NDTV.
