Delhi Government Coaching Scheme

The Delhi government will provide free preparatory coaching for entrance exams like NEET and JEE to its students willing to make their career in the field of engineering, medical and other technical fields, officials said on Wednesday.

Children belonging to scheduled castes (SC), scheduled tribes (ST), other backward classes (OBC) and those whose parents have an annual income of up to Rs 8 lakh can avail the scheme.

The Delhi High Court has directed Delhi government to examine a plea by a law student and give necessary directions after he sought assistance under a scheme facilitating coaching classes and claimed it was suspended at present on account of COVID.

Shrikant Prasad, a student in the final year of DU LLb course, sought the implementation of the Jai Bhim Mukhyamantari Pratibha Vikas Yojana which was announced in September 2019 for providing funds to the Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe and other category students for attending coaching classes.

Online or offline coaching classes will resume soon for students enrolled under a city government scheme under which those from SC/ST/OBC and EWS categories receive private coaching for competitive exams, Delhi Minister Rajendra Pal Gautam said on Friday.

He was enrolled in 'Jai Bhim Mukhyamantri Pratibha Vikas Yojana -- a free coaching scheme of the Delhi government which was launched in 2017.

The move comes at a time when only a few months are left for the Delhi Assembly elections scheduled to be held early next year.

Buoyed by the success of its free coaching scheme 'Jai Bhim Mukhyamantri Pratibha Vikas Yojana', the Aam Aadmi Party government in Delhi has decided to extend it to underprivileged students from the general category and other backward classes.

Social Welfare Minister Rajendra Pal Gautam told PTI that the government was considering extending the scheme to needy students belonging to OBC and general category.
