Delhi Liquor Rates

The Delhi government Monday opposed the pleas challenging its decision prohibiting any discount or rebate on the MRP of liquor in the national capital and told the Delhi High Court that this was giving rise to bootlegging activity.

Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh on Tuesday agreed to fix uniform tax rates on petroleum products, amid rising fuel prices. Besides, the states also agreed to bring uniformity in taxes on liquor and registration of vehicles and transport permit, according to an official release.

The Delhi government has directed all liquor vends in the city to display rate charts reflecting changes in retail prices of various brands following complaints of overcharging.

Liquor in the national capital is set to become costlier from tomorrow. The rates of liquor is likely to increase by eight to 12 per cent as the revised excise duty regime and increased retailers margin component on liqour, notified by the Delhi government, would come into effect from tomorrow.
