Delhi residents endured the fourth consecutive day of 'poor' air quality on Thursday, with indicators at 13 monitoring stations across the city being in the 'red zone', up from two the day before.

The Delhi Police on Friday designated a five-kilometre radius around the historic Red Fort as a "no kite flying zone'' till Prime Minister Narendra Modi hoists the tricolour at the Mughal era monument on Independence Day.

The air quality in the national capital remained poor for the sixth consecutive day on Monday with stubble burning accounting for seven per cent of the capital's PM2.5 pollution.

As Delhi's air quality entered the red zone today with the number of farm fires increasing by four times over last year's, Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia attacked the central government saying all of north India would have to pay for its "inaction on the issue of air pollution".

The entire national capital may not remain under "Red" zone as the Delhi government has launched an exercise to define its own "Red, Orange and Green zones" -- marking of areas based on COVID-19 case load, sources said.

Both companies say operations have been restarted with enhanced safety protocols.
