US airline Delta apologized on Thursday after a recent flight had to make an emergency landing due to a cabin pressure problem, with local media reporting the incident caused passengers to bleed from the nose and ears.

The flight made an emergency landing in New York after passengers reportedly received a "spoiled" meal.

The airline has not disclosed how the contamination was detected, nor have they provided information on how many of the 277 passengers consumed the meal.

The airline apologised to the customers and stated that it would compensate them.

The plane was two hours into the eight-hour journey from Atlanta, Georgia to Barcelona, Spain when it made a U-turn.

The flight sustained substantial damage to its right-hand wing, both engines, radome, and along the leading edges of the wings.

When passengers reboarded the plane and were set to depart, an inflatable air slide at the back of the plane accidentally opened while the aircraft was still at the gate.
