Around 170 people were tested positive for dengue in Bihar on Saturday, adding to the over 600 cases that have been registered across the state following heavy rain last week. At least 80 per cent of the 775 dengue cases have been reported from Patna alone, officials said.

More than 400 people are being treated for dengue in Patna, parts of which remained flooded for the eighth day on Saturday following heavy rain last week, as floating animal carcasses and garbage spouted concerns of spreading disease in Bihar's capital city, home to about 30 lakh residents.

After the death of a cop in Patna, who was suffering from dengue and was denied medical leave, trainee constables opened fire, attacked their seniors and vandalized the police line. Vehicles, including those belonging to officers were damaged and overturned.

The first death caused by dengue in the New Delhi was reported recently. A 12-year-old boy from Bihar identified as Nitish Kumar, residing in Safdarjung area in south Delhi, died on August 1 due dengue shock syndrome and resulting in multiple-organ failure at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital.
