The 11 states reporting a more dangerous type of dengue have been asked by the centre to take steps for early detection of cases, start fever helplines and stock adequate testing kits, larvicides and medicines.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal today asked all its MLAs to keep checking their constituencies on availability of medicines, testing kits and cleanliness in hospitals as the city faces its worst Dengue crisis in 5 Years.

Cases of dengue are being reported from Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Odisha and a number of other places. Delhi has taken the biggest hit so far, and is witnessing the worst outbreak in five years, with more than 2000 recorded cases and over 25 deaths.

The government plans to ban the sale of rapid diagnostic test kits used for "quick" detection of dengue infection as it does not provide accurate results, an official said on Tuesday.
