The Allahabad High Court on Monday turned down an Uttar Pradesh government's plea to prevent media from reporting on the infamous Deoria's women shelter case involving suspected sexual exploitation of its inmates.

The Supreme Court today expressed serious concern over recent cases of rape and sexual abuse of women at shelter homes in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh and asked when these horrific incidents would stop.

Uttar Pradesh's Women Welfare Minister Rita Bahuguna Joshi today admitted laxity by Deoria administration in shutting down the shelter home from where 24 girls were rescued, saying the district officials were aware about the closure order but allowed the facility to operate for more than a year.

Declaring that there was a complete "jungle raj" in BJP-ruled states, BSP chief Mayawati on Monday said that there should be no cover-up of the incidents of alleged sexual exploitation reported from shelter homes in Bihar's Muzaffarpur town and Uttar Pradesh's Deoria district.
