Dineshwar Sharma, the Administrator Of Lakshadweep and former interlocutor of the Centre for Jammu and Kashmir, has died. Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted to condole his death and said Mr Sharma made "long lasting contributions to India's policing and security apparatus".

Dineshwar Sharma, the Centre's special representative, will continue to engage with the people of Jammu and Kashmir, even though Governor's Rule has been imposed in the state.

With Prime Minister Narendra Modi set to visit Jammu and Kashmir next Saturday, Union Home Secretary Rajiv Gauba and the centre's representative in the state, Dineshwar Sharma, discussed the situation in the valley today. The meeting lasted for over an hour, and was attended by senior level officers of the Kashmir desk at the Home Ministry.
