Polling for Rajya Sabha seats begins; Jharkhand Mukti Morcha woos its junior ally for support

A month after the Election Commission countermanded the polls, elections for the two Rajya Sabha seats from Jharkhand began today even as last minute parleys were on, with ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) wooing its junior ally All Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU) party to vote for its candidate Sanjeev Kumar.

The Election Commission (EC) today decided to write to the government seeking a CBI probe into the events that led to countermand of Rajya Sabha elections in Jharkhand recently. The decision comes after the Jharkhand High Court asked the Commission to constitute a probe.

In an unprecedented move, the Election Commission (EC), on Friday, countermanded the Rajya Sabha polls in Jharkhand.
