The Mitras of Kolkata say they got a 'McLizzie' when they ordered breakfast at McDonald's at EM Bypass in the city on Tuesday. A deep fried lizard with their French fries left Priyanka Mitra, who is four months pregnant, rushing to the washroom. She had taken her daughter to the outlet for a treat.

Call it a Christmas gift or Durga Puja, Kolkata is getting a big one on Friday - an almost 8 kilometre long flyover network that should ease the traffic nightmare to a great extent, in at least some parts of the city. It's the city's longest flyover that took full five years to build.

A landmark of Kolkata has just vanished. The towering 30-foot Paroma statue - one of the biggest pieces of the city's public art which stood for 27 years on the Eastern Metropolitan Bypass - disappeared probably on Monday night. A heap of rubble is all that's left.

Over 100 shanties gutted in fire at Kolkata slum

A massive fire razed to the ground over a hundred homes at a slum in Kaliakapur area on the EM Bypass in the eastern part of the city this evening. Till reports last came in, there has been no loss of life but it took 20 fire engines more than two hours to bring the fire under control and hundreds of people have been left homeless.
