Even as outrage over the Hathras horror spreads across the country, a 13-year-old girl from a Scheduled Caste community was recently set ablaze in Telangana for reportedly resisting the sexual advances of a man at whose house she worked as a caregiver.

Pakistan has not conducted any child labour survey in 20 years even as the country faces the "worst" form of child labour where workers are subjected to physical and mental torture, a media report said today.

Those employing children below 14 years of age for any work, except where a child is helping his family post school hours or during vacation, can get up to two-year imprisonment and maximum fine of Rs 50,000, as per a new law which has got nod from President Pranab Mukherjee.

The government has given its nod to a proposal allowing children below the age of 14 years to work only in family enterprises or the entertainment industry with certain conditions while completely banning their employment elsewhere.

For the first time in independent India, employing a child below 14 years of age can land you in jail. The Cabinet today approved the amendment to Child Labour Act which proposes a complete ban on employment of children up to the age of 14 in any industry.
