English Medium Schools In West Bengal

The West Bengal cabinet on Monday approved a proposal to make Bengali mandatory as a second language in private English medium schools, a senior official said.

The rescheduled dates for Class 12 board exams remain unchanged and will be held on June 29, July 2 and July 6 as announced.

A number of girl students of the junior section of an English medium missionary school West Bengal's Bolpur were allegedly forced to take off their leggings on the pretext that their colours did not confirm to the school uniform, sparking off protests by parents.

The minister said manuals for English medium teaching in the schools have been prepared already and now ready for distribution in the schools.

Education minister Partha Chatterjee had said earlier this month, the state-run government schools will offer English Medium based education from the next academic year.
