Environment Budget 2019

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has said that the tax proposals in the Union Budget for FY20 on fossil fuels and electric cars must push people to avoid polluting fuels and adopt either electric vehicles or public transport.

The Centre on Friday increased the allocation for Environment Ministry from last fiscal by 10.4 per cent to Rs 2,954.72 crore for 2019-20 in what was termed as a "green budget" by Prime Minister Narendra Modi with several initiatives for promoting electric vehicles, reducing air pollution and encouraging afforestation.

The government on Friday increased the budgetary allocation for the Environment Ministry by 20.27 per cent to Rs 3,111.20 crore as it presented the interim budget for 2019-20.
